Der Alkohol in botanischen Nasspräparaten konserviert die vollplastische Gestalt und einige Zeit auch die Farbe der Blüten, Früchte und Samen. L.K. war als Botaniker im Botanischen Garten Berlin tätig und leitete ab 1887 eine koloniale Versuchsstation im ehemals deutsch-kolonialisierten Neu Guinea. Die Sammlungen belegen das koloniale Interesse, den Brotfruchtbaum in den natürlichen, tropischen Verbreitungsgebieten als Nutzpflanze zu erforschen.

Alcohol is used to preserve the full plastic shape and, for a time, the colour of the flowers, fruits and seeds. L.K. worked as a botanist at the Botanic Garden in Berlin and from 1887 onwards and was in charge of a colonial experimental station in the formerly German-colonised New Guinea. The collections prove the colonial interest in exploring the breadfruit tree as a useful plant in areas of its natural distribution in tropical regions.
